Delicious Alternatives to Halloween Candy
Oct 21st 2019
Fall is officially here, and the air feels eerily festive as Halloween lurks just around the corner. We love this time of year! The air has a crisp, cool feel, and a craving for all things apple, pumpkin and spice begin to creep up in the best way.
Inevitably, we’ll all be surrounded by not-so-healthy treats (filled with preservatives and other scary stuff!) tricking our minds into temptation. If the willpower is there, sure, perhaps one classic treat won’t hurt but it’s hard to stop at just one; a candy bowl at work, a costume party, and of course the big night of trick-or-treating. The struggle is real for both adults and kiddos! Lucky for us there are some natural and healthy alternatives to Halloween candy for kids of ALL ages that will treat your taste buds and your body without the unwanted side effects.
Avoiding the Devilish Candy Bowl at Work
Sweet treats will be everywhere, even at work, so it’s a good idea to keep healthy snacks handy to resist temptation. If you love the tart and tangy candies we suggest keeping a stash of mango slices or goji berries at your desk. Not only will these satisfy your craving but they’ll give you a sweet dose of superfood nutrients to keep your mind sharp and your blood sugar in check.
Throwing a Halloween Party? This is the perfect opportunity to treat your guests to healthier Halloween alternatives. Our Berry Adventure can easily be added to your party menu. If you need more decadence, simple add more cacao nibs. Looking for some wickedly healthy recipe ideas? We’ve got you covered!

Trick-or-Treat Night Prep
If you’re taking the kids out for some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating, it can be hard to navigate the whole candy situation. Over the years, parents have come up with some fun solutions from buying the candy bag from their kids to getting crafty or scientific with it as opposed to eating it!
While natural health food stores are carrying healthier candy options, let’s be honest, candy is candy so it’s best to keep the treat noshing in check to maintain healthy blood sugar and hormone levels. Below are some tips to help before, during, and after trick-or-treat night.
Fill everyone’s belly with a delicious healthy treat to keep cravings from creeping up. Whip up a Pumpkin Pie Smoothie and or a snack like our Maca Peanut Butter before heading out. Maca is great for kids as it helps boost calcium intake and balances hormones which can help with mood and behavior. Omit the mesquite for persnickety palates.
Pack-up a small festive treat bag filled with mango slices and pumpkin seeds or trail mix to take with you. When the kids are tempted with candy offer the treat bag options as an alternative.
Plan ahead for when the trick-or-treating is over with a healthy dessert like our No-Bake Pumpkin Bars or our Golden Vegan Vanilla Donuts. Both could easily be decorated with Halloween flare.
However you plan to celebrate, the Sunfood team wishes everyone a happy, fun, safe and healthy Halloween!
