What Is Bee Pollen and Why Is It Good for Me?
Pollen is the tiny, dust-sized fertilizing element found on the stamen of all flower blossoms. As honey bees travel from flower to flower looking for nectar, the pollen collects into little clumps on their legs.
When a bee returns to the hive and crawls in, small clumps of pollen fall from the legs into a collection vessel.
The pollen is a nutrient dense powerhouse containing:
-
20% complete protein
-
Amino Acids
-
Vitamins A & C, as well as B vitamins
-
Essential minerals, including iron, magnesium, and zinc

Where Have All the Bee Products Gone?
Have you noticed your favorite natural food store shelves slowly decreasing in bee products? From delicious honey and bee pollen to honeycomb – the virtual and physical shelves are slowly dwindling before our very eyes. Here’s a little background on what’s going on…
Did you know that bees are rapidly dropping in numbers all over the globe? It’s called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and in the last decade, over 30% of honeybee colonies have been affected in the U.S. and Europe, while in 2013, many American beekeepers experienced losses of over 40%.1
How does this happen? It has been suggested that the primary cause of CCD is a harmful group of pesticides known as neonicotinoids, which affects bees’ brains, rendering them unable to find their way back to the hive.
In a recent study, it was found that “sublethal exposure to neonicotinoids is likely the main culprit for the occurrence of CCD.”2 Exacerbating the matter is the widespread use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) which increases pesticide use.
